DEUTSCH

Students learn how to use laboratory glassware and how to set up synthesis apparatus. Furthermore, experiments are carried out on the basic separation processes such as liquid-liquid extraction, distillation and recrystallisation. This is followed by organic syntheses with subsequent analytical characterisation of the products.

For analytical characterisation and quality testing of the preparations produced, students have access to melting point determination equipment, refractometers, an H-NMR spectrometer (60 MHZ) and an FTIR-ATR spectrometer. In the senior years, students learn how to carry out more complicated organic syntheses, as well as how to research, plan and record projects on their own responsibility.

The practical courses are divided into the basic practical course, Organic Chemistry 1, and the advanced practical course, Organic Chemistry 2. This is followed by the practical course in natural product chemistry in the 4th semester if the field of applied chemistry is chosen.

Building on this, the Master's degree programme offers the practical course of Advanced Organic Chemistry and, as an elective subject, Electro-organic Syntheses.
