Necessity of interdisciplinary BIMs

Bei BIM arbeiten alle Gewerke über eine digitale Schnittstelle zusammen

In times of digitalization, the construction industry is also undergoing rapid change. New technological possibilities offer the opportunity to remedy the increasing cost pressure, shortage of skilled workers and ever stricter environmental and safety standards. The topic BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a very determining topic, which will change the building industry in the next years from reason to reason. The aim is to achieve an interdisciplinary way of thinking and working for the planning, construction and operation of buildings.

Teaching content

The content of the module is to promote the development of competence with regard to digital planning and building in interdisciplinary teaching and learning groups in cooperation with the departments of architecture, civil engineering and energy-build-environment and to prepare students for their professional future in a practical way. Through external practical lectures and accompanying software training, practical and technological competencies are ensured.

Project phase

The project phase includes the processing of a project task in which the later use as well as the requirements of the client are listed in detail. Interdisciplinary groups of students from all three faculties are formed to work on the project. A central component of the task is the development of a building concept, which is further elaborated with the help of a building data model and the BIM methodology. The focus is on the application of the BIM methodology through a holistic and cooperative cooperation, using existing knowledge from the previous Bachelor's programme and the consideration of standards, guidelines and regulations.

In the further course of the module the students develop the building data model with the help of BIM-capable software and a common use of the building model data. During the elaboration of the building data model, especially when using the different software, the interface problems of the individual trades become apparent.

Pro Gewerk, the respective data model is loaded onto a cloud based BIM platform via IFC interface. There, the data models of the building data model are merged and checked for collisions. The interface problems and collisions have to be identified, discussed and resolved through cooperative collaboration.

The focus is on students communicating directly with each other in a subject-specific way from the very beginning. The interdisciplinary cooperation of the students, which corresponds to the BIM methodology, opens their eyes in a certain way, so that they independently recognize that such an efficient and defect-free construction process can be carried out.

Thesis

In addition to existing teaching and research projects, final theses can be carried out within the framework of laboratory operations. A conversion can take place by the laboratory or in co-operation with external enterprises.
