Additional entrance requirements

First professional degree:

In order to be admitted to the degree programme, you will need to demonstrate that you have an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering or science subject with an overall grade of ‘good’ (2.5) or better. In exceptional cases, you may also prove your eligibility by demonstrating that you have accomplished particularly qualifying tasks after completing your undergraduate degree, such as in your professional work, or that your final thesis had a particular relevance to electrical engineering.

Language requirements:

Applicants who did not acquire their study qualification at a German-speaking institution must demonstrate that they have knowledge of German at level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), for example by proving that they have passed the TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache) with an average score of ‘4’, or must furnish equivalent proof.

EnrolmentThe next enrolment phase
commences in Mai 2024.

Detailed description of the degree programme

Technology is ubiquitous, and yet not always recognisable at first sight. Take the example of energy production, energy distribution, digital systems in communication and automation technology: all this is possible because multiple electrotechnical products and systems are perfectly aligned. The interlinking of different areas places high demands on engineers. In our Master’s programme, you will enhance your professional knowledge of electrical engineering and raise your profile in a well focused manner, creating the foundation for the requirements placed on you by the professional field.

Objectives

After completing the Master´s degree programme in Electrical Engineering, you will be able to ...

  • ... analyse complex and interdisciplinary issues from research and development in the field of electrical engineering using scientific methods.
  • ... present your results in a manner appropriate to the target group, discuss them critically and draw conclusions.
  • ... plan and implement complex projects from the initial idea through conceptualisation and development to commissioning, production and operation.
  • ... develop hardware and software-based systems.
  • ... reflect on ethical issues relating to the use of technology.
  • ... take on a responsible role in a company.
  • ... work in a scientific environment.

Occupational fields

After completing your degree programme, you will work in a variety of responsible fields, for example in development, production, sales, purchasing, project management or management. Your Master´s degree will also qualify you for an academic career by pursuing a doctorate.

Content and course sequence

You will start the programme by taking basic subject modules. In supplementary modules such as Information Law and Business Management and Technology and Sociecty, you will develop your skills beyond electrical engineering.

At a later stage of the programme, you will encounter specialist modules from the areas of Automation Technology, Renewable Energies, and Information Technology/Communications Engineering. If you wish, you can choose all three modules from one area, specialising strongly. Or you may prefer to gain more comprehensive skills, choosing modules from different areas.

You will also have the opportunity to select compulsory elective courses. Examples include Adaptive Systems, Embedded Engineering, Model-Based Systems Development, Optical Communications or selected modules from the intersection of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

In the Master´s seminar, you will actively engage with current research results and scientific publications.

Why choose us

  • Practice-relevant project orientation: Working in teams, you will develop solutions or products, often in the context of research projects with partners from industry and business. One example is your Master’s project, where you will spend two semesters of intense working on your chosen topic.
  • Flexibility: You will be well oriented to the needs of today’s job market because the programme offers a choice of subject-specific areas of study and in-depth optional areas.
  • Industry contacts: In your projects, you will directly apply your knowledge to real-world situations, simultaneously preparing you for tasks in a professional environment. Our many contacts will make this easier for you.
  • Technology and more: The Master’s programme is not only restricted to specialised training in electrical engineering. On the contrary, you will also concern yourself with issues and consequences surrounding current and future solutions to everyday life.
