High-rate data transmission via carbon fiber cable
As part of the ATLAS project in collaboration with the University of Wuppertal and CERN in Geneva, we investigated the properties of novel carbon fiber-based cables in the Laboratory of Communications Engineering. The tasks included the measurement and characterization of the cables developed in Wuppertal. Models were extracted from the measurement data, which are used to simulate the transmission properties. An FPGA development board was also used to investigate the bit error rate (BER) of such cables for high transmission rates.
