In winter semester 2001/2002, the msa was the first faculty of architecture in Germany to introduce a tiered, 5-year Bachelor/Master study programme. A main element at the start of the Master study programme entails impromptu designs.
International & renowned
Short modules are specifically offered to msa students at renowned European universities such as Barcelona, Delft, Cracow, Prague and Venice. Furthermore, famous, internationally active architects act as visiting lecturers for these impromptu designs at the msa. Past visiting lecturers include Roman Delugan (Delugan Meissl Architects, Vienna), Holger Kehne (Plasma Studio Architects, London), Tristan Kobler (Holzer Kobler Architekturen, Zürich) and Volker Staab (Volker Staab Architekten, Berlin). Here, students are able to experience the different methodologies of various architecture philosophies, enabling them to gain a personal relationship to architecture.
The completion period - approx. 4 weeks - is tight, with the intention of training intensive work methods. The first few days are intended for an on-site analysis and initial test drafts. After a subsequent independent processing phase, a final presentation is given at the msa, followed by a final critique by the visiting professor. Through intense discourse with external figures and the examination of the respective place, students experience a wide variety of approaches to the design process.
