The msa considers the individual, person-related assignment and accompaniment of the concluding one-semester thesis to be an important factor of quality in its teaching. A high degree of student autonomy is guaranteed by the free choice of supervisor and area of specialisation.

In the past, msa students have received top awards for their final theses, such as the Prize of the Stiftung deutscher Architekten and the Taut Prize, the most valuable scholarship awarded by the German Architectural Association.

Objective

The aim of the Master thesis is to prove the candidate's artistic abilities and technical knowledge required to realise an architectonic planning project. A complex architectonic topic has to be explored within a set period. The topic has to be captured and examined accordingly in its cultural, intellectual, historical, social, economic and environmental context.

The work, to be carried out independently by the student on the basis of scientific methodologies, should demonstrate a proposal for a solution of architectonic quality at the interface of artistic vision, socio-political relevance and technical feasibility.
