Questions and answers regarding the application for studies
Do other regulations on pre-study internships currently apply?
Do the proficiency tests take place?
Will the application and enrolment deadlines change for the winter semester 2020/21?
The Ministry of Science NRW has decided that the application for admission restricted Bachelor's degree courses (with NC) will start later. This means that the application deadline and admission dates will also be postponed. The final deadline is scheduled for 2 June. It is expected that the application for Bachelor's degree courses with NC will start on July 2, 2020.
The enrolment phase for unrestricted programmes (without NC) and the application phase for the Master's programmes with NC will begin on 27 May 2020. For more information on the application deadlines, please see the link below (Status: 18.05.2020).
Does the start of lectures change for the winter semester 2020/21?
|expected start of lectures for||Date|
|Bachelor programs with NC||02.11.2020|
|Bachelor-Teacher training courses||02.11.2020|
|all other courses*||beginning of October|
*In some degree programmes, courses start earlier.
I cannot have my documents notarized at the moment. What does this mean for my university application?
Attestations should confirm the authenticity of the documents required for enrolment or admission (e.g. school report, proof of internships, completed vocational training, ...) The Ministry of Science requires that at least the higher education entrance qualification (Abitur, entrance qualification for studies at universities of applied sciences, qualification in vocational training) must be verified by a certified copy.
But what do you do if there is no one to certify the certificate?
Then please submit uncertified copies to us first. We reserve the right to check the documents later by submitting originals or certified copies.
Please do not send in any originals. The submitted documents will be destroyed after registration. (Status: 14.04.2020)
What if I cannot complete the practical part of my Fachhochschulreife before 30.09.2020?
The Fachhochschulreife consists of an academic and a practical part. The practical part can be acquired through a recognised vocational training course of at least two years, through many years of professional activity or through a guided internship.
In the case of courses of study with restricted admission (with NC), you must have completed the practical part by 30 September at the latest in accordance with the legal regulations when applying for the winter semester. Otherwise the admission would be revoked. As already mentioned, this regulation only applies to Bachelor's degree programmes with NC. For NC-free degree programmes, the practical part of the Fachhochschulreife must be completed by the time of enrolment.
As the date 30.09. was set by the Ministry, the universities cannot make any arbitrary decisions. However, it can be assumed that the date will be postponed by decree at least until 01.11.
As soon as we have information from the ministry in this regard, we will publish it. (Status: 14.04.2020)
