At FH Münster, the board of trustees consists of eight members, including six external representatives. A selection committee, which includes representatives from the senate, the existing board of trustees and the state, draws up and decides on a list, which must be confirmed by the senate. After approval by the state, university council members are appointed for five years.
All universities in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia have been required to establish a board of trustees since 2008 - a consequence of the Higher Education Freedom Act.
