Education, training, research and transfer in the field of humanitarian aid - this is what the Centre of Competence for Humanitarian Relief stands for. As an interdisciplinary institution, the centre combines issues of humanitarian aid with topics from the various faculties.
The Centre of Competence for Humanitarian Relief was founded in 2001 at Münster University of Applied Sciences.
Education
In lectures, especially at the Department of Oecotrophology and Facility Management, we introduce the contents of humanitarian relief into teaching. We advise and support students who see their professional future in humanitarian assistance or international cooperation, for example by establishing contacts with relevant organisations.
Advanced training
Together with the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV) at the Ruhr University Bochum and Aktion Deutschland Hilft e. V., the Centre of Competence for Humanitarian Aid has founded the academy for humanitarian action (aha). This institution for further education in the humanitarian field works at the intersection of humanitarian practice and research.
It contributes to quality assurance and enhancement in humanitarian assistance. The academy is guided by internationally established initiatives to unitise training in humanitarian relief. It aims to systematise and standardise further and advanced training in humanitarian assistance.
Research
We at the Centre of Competence conduct research in the field of humanitarian relief in various key areas. We also supervise project work and final theses related to humanitarian assistance and international cooperation.
Transfer
We think it is important to share our findings with society, for example through lectures, congresses and trainings.
What does the term "humanitarian relief" mean?
Emergency humanitarian relief is a short-term measure to bridge the acute shortage of supplies for populations after natural or violent disasters worldwide. From the outset, it must be planned with a view to sustainable integration into existing supply systems.
Humanitarian relief focuses on providing vulnerable population groups with clean drinking water, adequate nutrition, basic medical care and protection from the effects of extreme weather and violence in the light of principles of international law, ethics and development policy.
