The Institute for Optical Technologies carries out research on new methods for the generation, application, and manipulation of light.
One example in the field of light generation is our work on light-emitting materials for LEDs and lasers. Important examples for the application of light are photovoltaics or the use of light for biomedical purposes. Finally, we manipulate light with in-house developed computer-controlled deformable mirrors for use in lasers and astronomical telescopes.
We are conducting application-oriented fundamental research. The results are internationally visible through publications in peer-reviewed journals, contributions to international conferences, and also in the form of a textbook.
In the last years, the photonics industry recorded a steady growth, partly at a double-digit percentage rate (according to the SPECTARIS industry report) which leads to above-average job prospectives of our students and PhDs.
