Researchers at the iSuN are committed to the mission  statement of "Sustainable Development":

Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

 - World Commission on Environment and Development (Brundtland Report) 1987

By developing innovative concepts, products and services for a sustainable development of nutrition and the food industry, the iSuN pursues the following goals:

First of all, the iSuN strives to develop sustainable food products and catering services together with the food industry and trade in order to make healthy, environmentally friendly nutrition possible. For that, the iSuN team looks at the entire value chain from procurement to logicstics, development, production, marketing, preparation and storage and up to the potential recycling and use of remnants.

Secondly, the institute conducts nutrition and consumer research specifically to reveal new ways to a more healthy and at the same time sustainable nutrition and communicate it to the public.

In close collaboration with public clients and the media, the iSuN wants to contribute to more transparency in our food system with regard to health as well as the use of resources, climate protection and distributional justice.
