Requirements and enrollment

Admissions restrictions No local entrance restrictions
Pre-study placementProof of a mechanical engineering-related practical activity (internship) of ten weeks' duration.

The internship is intended to familiarise students with relevant work techniques and with questions of company organisation and work processes. The internship may also include computer science components to a maximum extent of 50% of the ten weeks. Relevant training and professional activities related to the degree programme shall be credited towards the internship.

The internship must normally be completed before taking up the degree programme and proof of this must be provided at the time of enrolment. Any missing periods of the internship (max. 4 weeks) must be made up for at the earliest possible time; the corresponding proof must be submitted latest by the beginning of the lecture period of the third semester.
Additional entrance requirements

Language requirements:

Applicants who did not acquire their study qualification at a German-speaking institution must demonstrate that they have knowledge of German at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), for example by proving that they have passed the TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache) with a score of ‘3’, or must furnish equivalent proof.

EnrolmentThe next enrolment phase
commences in Mai 2024.

Detailed description of the degree programme

Modern information processing provides capabilities to systems, machinery, vehicles and devices that were considered just a few years ago to be science fiction (Industry 4.0). As a result, there is a growing need for engineers who have not only a knowledge of mechanical engineering, but also applied computer science. IT skills are required for simulation technology and for controlling modern machinery (robots) and processes. At the same time, broad mechanical engineering expertise is required. Our Bachelor programme in Computer Science in Mechanical Engineering combines these two fields.

Objectives

The aim of our degree programme is to train engineers who are able to meet today’s demands in an industrial working environment and to successfully manage projects. After completing the degree programme, you will master the interplay between traditional mechanical engineering and applied computer science, and will be able to develop, manage and enhance the necessary systems.

Occupational fields

After obtaining your degree, you will be able to work in the following fields:

  • Calculation engineering
  • Production planning and control
  • Software design
  • Robotics
  • Construction
  • Research and development
  • After-sales, customer service
  • Logistics
  • Servicing, maintenance
  • Management, business management
  • Training and further training
  • Quality management, quality assurance

In addition, our department offers the following Master’s programmes:

  • Master in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in Product Design, Computational Engineering, Agricultural Engineering – offered as full-time and part-time programmes.
  • Master in Business Management in Technology, specialising in Mechanical Engineering

Content and course sequence

At the start of the programme, you will initially gain a basic knowledge of mathematics, science and technology, such as in:

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Statics
  • Materials Engineering

As the programme progresses, you will take modules that have greater application-oriented content, such as:

  • Applied Computer Science
  • IT Project Management
  • Manufacturing Processes
  • Digital and Control Engineering
  • Hydraulics
  • Control Engineering
  • Numerical Software
  • Database Systems

We also offer a range of optional compulsory modules, which will help you to specifically develop your professional profile. Examples include:

  • Quality Management
  • Measurement Engineering
  • Applications in Production Management
  • Thermodynamics

In the sixth and final semester, you will complete a twelve-week work placement, concluding with a Bachelor thesis.
