Detailed description of the degree programme

Have you already completed a Bachelor’s degree and would like to build on the knowledge you have gained? Would you like a job involving both business and technology, or to manage projects and take on managerial responsibilities? Then our Master’s programme in Business Management in Technology is just right for you. The Master’s programme builds on the preceding Bachelor programme in Business Management in Technology. Of course, you are still welcome to join us if you have a degree in engineering or science and would like to add business skills to your toolkit.

After completing the programme, you will be able to guide management processes in technology oriented companies. You will be able to correctly assess developments and to draw up interdisciplinary strategies to solve problems. To achieve this, you will combine your engineering and business expertise. You will also have the ability to use key transferable skills at crucial moments in business life, such as in negotiation strategies or when handling intercultural cooperation. In this way, you will be qualified to take on managerial tasks with responsibility for projects and personnel – including at the international level.

Occupational fields

As a graduate of our Master’s programme, career prospects will be open to you in virtually all areas of industry. Your knowledge will give you access to highly qualified activities and management positions. Of course, you may prefer to gain further academic qualifications by pursuing a doctorate.

Content and course sequence

Our Master’s programme is divided into two main areas of teaching: business content is taught by the Institute of Business Administration and Engineering (ITB), while engineering modules will be provided by the department responsible for your chosen specialisation.

In the business modules, you will build on and expand your economic expertise, e.g. in project management, marketing, business process management, or technology and innovation management. In addition, optional modules such as Production Management or IT-based Management and Controlling will enable you to specialise in accordance with your interests.

In the engineering modules, you will be able to choose from a variety of specialisations.

  • In Chemical Engineering, you will be able to choose from modules such as Heat and Mass Transfer, Bioprocessing Technology, Advanced Analytical Chemistry, and Technology of Polymers. Many of these modules are offered in English.
  • If you choose to specialise in Electrical Engineering, you will have a choice of the following modules: Process Control, Embedded Systems, Mobile Robots, and Energy Storage Technologies.
  • Mechanical Engineering involves modules such as Plant Planning, Integrated Product Development, Operations Research, and Agricultural Machinery.
  • Engineering Physics addresses modules such as Genetic Engineering, Research Project, Industrial Image Processing, and Development of Optical Systems.

In addition to technical and business knowledge, we will also teach you valuable key transferable skills, such as negotiating skills and behavioural management.

You will write your Master’s thesis in the fourth semester, concluding your degree programme with a colloquium.

Why choose us

Studies at Münster University of Applied Sciences are noted for their strong practical emphasis: you will work on real assignments for local companies in the context of various projects. Business simulations (e.g. in lean manufacturing, project management, or business process management) will enable you to experience and reflect on operational procedures from different perspectives.

Our teaching is interactive: You will tackle case studies and assignments in small groups and present your findings to the other students. In this way, you will not only enhance your specialist skills, but also develop your communication and social skills.

We will also give you the possibility to enhance your intercultural skills. For example, Intercultural Communication and Competence will prepare you for undertaking work in international teams. You will have the opportunity to try out your knowledge directly by studying or writing your final thesis abroad.
