Detailed description of the degree programme
Are you fascinated by new materials? Would you even like to design high-tech materials yourself? Then our international Master´s programme in Materials Science and Engineering is exactly what you are looking for! The development of new materials, especially in nanotechnology, creates important prerequisites for new industrial processes and modern products that drive social progress, increase the quality of life and solve important problems in the fields of energy technology, life science, environmental technology and information technology.
The degree programme provides you with broad and in-depth expertise and practical laboratory experience along the entire value chain: from the idea, development and production and analysis to the design of new processes. Thanks to the research-oriented approach of the Master´s degree programme, you will be able to independently develop and optimise products and processes in the materials processing industry after graduation.
There are excellent job prospects within the industry or the possibility for a Phd. The course provides comprehensive knowledge for jobs as development- or test engineer in areas such as mechanical engineering, chemical industry, electrical engineering or the automotive industry. The University of Applied Sciences has excellent co-operations with the industry or Phd partners, so there are possibilities to build up an important network during the studies. Furthermore, there are double degree programmes which enable students to acquire additional degrees during their studies abroad and to qualify for an international job market.
Study Contents and Curricula
A basic understanding as well as development and design of new materials is paramount to the course.
Core modules include solid state physics, polymer science, anorganic material chemistry, characterization of materials via spectroscopic methods or electron microscopy, materials science and nanotechnology. A considerable part of practical training in our laboratories and research projects provide practical teaching from the beginning.
The Master degree course will be offered in English, optional modules may partly be chosen in German. The Master thesis can be completed in our laboratories, research institutes or with industrial partners.
