4-5 September 2019 | Essen

On 4 and 5 September, the Federal Minister for Education and Research organised a conference about "Research in the Future of Universities of Applied Sciences" in "Zeche Zollverein" in Essen. Selected speakers presented on key topics in the development of Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany. Using best-practice examples, delegates presented projects and collaborations that addressed major social challenges such as health, care and energy supply. Follow up panel session developed perspectives for future research funding formats.

Prof. Thomas Baaken from S2BMRC was invited to present on "Best Practice of an Entrepreneurial University". Following the discussion tackled challenges and opportunities for German UoAS in Entrepreneurship Education and Entrepreneurial Research.

Thomas presented on Projects, PhD education in Entrepreneurship, Teaching & Learning formats and Teaching Staff of the S2BMRC. Slides attached.

Some 350 participants from UoAS all over Germany and key delegates from ministries, chambers of commerce, regional development agencies, et al. attended and contributed to the discussions.

The entire Higher Edication sector in Germany consists of a total of 429 universities in Germany: 106 traditional universities, 6 colleges of education, 16 theological colleges, 53 art colleges, 218 universities of applied sciences (some 100 private ones) and 30 administrative colleges.
