As part of the semester project on Innovation Districts, Master students from the International Marketing and Sales program visited HafenCity, a visible example of place-based development in what used to be the old harbour of Hamburg by the Elbe river.

The one-day study tour was organized by our S2BMRC semester project leaders: Claudia Umanzor and Habtamu Diriba; the outing consisted of understanding, observing and inquiring about networking and communication in an Innovation District.

Interviews were led by the students among different stakeholders in order to get relevant data for the outcome of their research project.

In the words of Claudia Umanzor "HafenCity Hamburg gave us the opportunity to vividly bring many important concepts that had come up in our systematic literature review into real life, so that our students could have a feeling and a better understanding of the object of our study."

Semester projects are one of the many trademarks of the S2BMRC as a strategy to give students the possibility to be exposed to the real world by developing concrete solutions for challenging problems in the private sector. We are proud to stand by our motto: UBC is our core.
