Our Ph.D. candidate, Habtamu Garomssa, actively participated in the methodology bootcamp titled 'Quality Comparative Analysis' organized by St. Gallen University's Global School in Empirical Research Methods (GSERM). The bootcamp, held in St. Gallen, Switzerland from 5th to 9th June 2023, was led by Prof. Peer Fiss, a renowned scholar in the field. Prof. Fiss's 2011 article, 'Building Better Causal Theories: A Fuzzy Set Approach to Typologies in Organization Research,' on Academy of Management journal has garnered over 3500 citations.
The research bootcamp encompassed various relevant topics related to comparative research. These included comparing and contrasting the QCA methodology with other variable-based quantitative methodologies, highlighting how QCA offers a powerful approach to unravel complex and multi-layered causal relationships between conditions and outcomes, and exploring the latest developments in the use of QCA methodology.
The bootcamp consisted of lectures, interactive question-answer sessions, and presentations. Moreover, Prof. Fiss shared his extensive and valuable experience in utilizing QCA methodology and achieving publication success in top-tier journals.
