Held in Australia for the second time, the 2019 UIIN Asia-Pacific University-Industry Interaction Conference held at UTS, Sydney, brought together over 200 delegates from all over the world including managers, practitioners, and researchers in the fields of entrepreneurial universities, collaborative innovation and university-industry interaction among others. Over the course of three days, the participants had access to a wide variety of presentations and workshops, where they had the opportunity to explore best practices on innovation, entrepreneurialism, industry partnerships, and start-up precincts. The conference will also include tours of the innovative spaces at UTS such as the Data Arena, Tech Lab, and ProtoSpace, as well as the Sydney Startup Hub.

 

The S2BMRC team actively participated and contributed to this year's conference.

 

- A pre-conference Workshop on "Designing the Future University", by Balzhan Orazbayeva (S2BMRC), Arno Meerman (UIIN/S2BMRC) and Carolin Plewa (University of Adelaide)

 

Drawing on an extensive research, 52 best practice cases in university engagement and 60 expert contributions on how the university will look in 2040, this workshop aimed at stretching the thinking and engaging participants in discussions about the future of the university. Using creativity techniques, workshop facilitators help participants to align their intentions with radical scenarios and supported them in creating their own vision of the University of the future.

- The Launch of the second FUT_ edition, the Future of Universities Thoughtbook | Australian Edition (www.futureuniversities.com), by Balzhan Orazbayeva (S2BMRC), Arno Meerman (UIIN/S2BMRC) and Carolin Plewa (University of Adelaide)

 

The Future of Universities Thoughtbook | Australian Edition brings together 20 visions from invited professionals, together with some shorter thought pieces by the editors, to create a vision for the future of universities and how they could potentially impact the world and their community over the next 21 years. Initiated by the UIIN Australian Chapter, this edition of the Thoughtbook becomes a thought starter for the development of the Future-Oriented Australian University.

- A conference ACEEU Workshop on "Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities", by Thorsten Kliewe (UIIN/S2BMRC) and Arno Meerman (UIIN/S2BMRC)

At ACEEU's Entrepreneurial and Engaged University Development workshop international higher education professionals explored the ACEEU Toolkit. Participants used the Entrepreneurial University Canvas and Cards to discuss how universities can better address the challenges of an entrepreneurial university.

- Paper presentation "Business Engaged with University Offerings", presented by Carolin Plewa (University of Adelaide), Balzhan Orazbayeva (S2BMRC) and Arno Meerman (UIIN/S2BMRC)

This presentation draws on the extensive research that has been conducted into customer and actor engagement in the marketing literature, offering an initial investigation into the role of affective, cognitive and behavioural engagement of business managers with university offerings. Specifically, the research focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Australia.
