The S2B Centre's long experience on university-society engagement has now been transformed into a new methodology: The Higher Education Scenario Building Canvas. Dr Lina Landinez and Prof. Dr Thorsten Kliewe held the workshop "Creating positive pathways for societal engagement through scenarios, visualisation and storytelling" during the EUA 2019 European Quality Assurance Forum in Berlin.

More than 20 participants from different universities and quality assurance agencies agreed on the value of this methodology for facilitating change in organisations. Scenarios allowed them to analyse how societal engagement will look like in the sample university chosen in the near future, including positive as well as negative possibilities.

Visualisation and storytelling are powerful tools supporting analysis and communication in organisational change processes. However, they have not been applied to higher education and even less in university engagement. With the development of this new methodology and workshop, the S2B Centre aims to deepen the analysis of university-society engagement and support actors on their transformation journey.
