The digital educational escape rooms (DEER) showcased in Amsterdam

19 April 2024 | Amsterdam

The ENHANCER learning, teaching, and training activities (LTTA) and Transnational Project Meeting (TPM) were hosted by Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and Questomatica in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from the 17th to the 19th of April, 2024.

The meeting brought together 18 participants from 5 countries. The main goal of the meeting was to co-create learning experiences on digital educational escape rooms (DEER), specifically to enhance students' development of social entrepreneurship skills.

Representing the Science to Business Marketing Research (S2BMRC) at FH Münster University of Applied Sciences, Habtamu Garommsa and Valentina Cruz, alongside other trainers and students from partner institutions, engaged in a diverse range of LTTA and transnational project management activities.

The LTTA sessions fostered active participation, commencing with a captivating physical escape room experience. Subsequent debriefing sessions encouraged participants to reflect on their roles, emotions, and team dynamics during the activity.

Following that, the student participants were introduced to the aims and objectives of the ENHANCER project via an interactive interview where they shared their conceptions of social entrepreneurship and social enterprises. This led to a broader reflection on social entrepreneurship as well as the intended contributions of the ENHANCER project.

The second day focused on showcasing and testing the digital educational escape rooms (DEER) prototype. The session started with a "Game Concept Presentation and Demo." This was followed by a co-creation session where game input was collected from the participants.

The second half of the day then focused on the teaching toolkit. A co-creation session was conducted on how to facilitate the integration of the DEER into the curriculum of the higher education partner institutions.

The last day of the LTTA was mainly dedicated to a reflection of the whole experience. To this end, a discussion was held about the expectations of participants, whether the sessions met those expectations, take-home learnings, and what was missing and needed to be improved.

As the last component of the meeting in Amsterdam, the project partners held a transnational project meeting covering important project management-related aspects, including upcoming project activities and potential timelines to conduct workshops 1 & 2, LTTA, and multiplier events. The TPM concluded by setting a timeline for the upcoming activities in PR4.

The outcome of the meeting in Amsterdam is expected to contribute to the development of an effective digital educational escape room that equips students with the necessary competencies to thrive as social entrepreneurs.
