The aim of the joint initiative ZDI is to encourage young people to study science and engineering subjects in North Rhine-Westphalia. zdi centres link stakeholders from industry, public institutions, local politics, educational facilities and schools, and acts as a cooperative platform to promote interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects and professions.

zdi centres seek to encourage young people to study STEM subjects or to embark on an apprenticeship in a STEM discipline, securing the next generation of STEM specialists in the region. The central task of zdi centres is therefore to guide young people towards studying and training in STEM subjects.
