Our Faculty of Energy • Buildings • Environment designs a varied programme tailored to the size of the class and the respective age group. Both half-day and all-day programmes are available. For example, pupils have the opportunity to visit the following three stops in small groups.

Electromobility using the example of e-bikes

Professor Dr. Christof Wetter presents the latest research on electromobility. Pupils are given the opportunity to test electric drive by riding an electric bike. Münster University of Applied Sciences has its own electric vehicle which, thanks to range extender technology, can be recharged using both electricity and petrol. Pupils take the e-bike out for a spin, while Wetter explains how the combination of the two drive types works. As an add-on effect, the class learns lots about voltage, the strength of electric current and plug types - a different way to learn about physics.

Microcosm in a drop of water

The Environmental Engineering Lab (Water, Waste Water, Waste and Emission Control) focuses on the life contained in a drop of water. Guided by Professor Dr. Hans-Detlef Römermann, pupils get to see a concentrated sample of water taken from Tiggelsee lake under the microscope, revealing an abundance of various plankton species.

Model of a sewerage system

Water also plays the key role at the third stop. The Urban Hydrology and Water Supply Lab has a model of a sewerage system that enables visitors to see how the drainage system works. How does water flow following heavy rainfall? What happens to solids that end up in waste water? Pupils can control the water supply to the model themselves, showing them what goes on underground, thanks to transparent pipes.

Transferring expert knowledge - arousing interest

The aim of the workshops is not only to enable pupils to gain expert knowledge, but also to provide them with information for their choice of degree programme/career and a first impression of a university.
