Detailed description of the degree programme

Students at vocational schools have special demands: they expect to learn subject-specific course content that will help them in their training. As a teacher of vocational education, you will therefore need expert knowledge that meets these demands, not only in terms of content, but also from an educational and teaching perspective. The Bachelor programmes offered at Münster School of Vocational Education (IBL) are perfectly tailored to these challenges. The cooperative studies offered by Münster University of Applied Sciences and the University of Münster will prepare you for this work in your chosen teaching subject. After completing the Bachelor programme, almost all graduates decide to pursue a postgraduate Master’s degree – the prerequisite for becoming a qualified teacher.

Objectives

In this Bachelor programme, you will gain the key skills required to teach adolescents and adults your chosen subject. The close cooperation between Münster University of Applied Sciences and the University of Münster means that you will benefit from their extensive experience in their respective specialist areas. As a result, this programme offers you a unique combination of educational and subject-specific knowledge.

General education subject

In addition to your occupation-specific vocational training at Münster University of Applied Sciences, your degree programme also involves a general education subject, which you will study at the University of Münster. You will find an up-to-date list on the IBL website.

Consecutive degree programme

Teacher training involves two consecutive stages of study: the Bachelor programme described here is the first stage of teacher training. Although you could embark on a career after this first degree, such as in training and continuing education for adults, it will not qualify you to work as a school teacher. To qualify as a school teacher, you will need to pursue postgraduate studies in the Master’s programme, lasting four semesters. Only then will you be able to take the state examination and enter the teaching profession after a period of teacher training.
