Language requirements:

Applicants who did not acquire their study qualification at a German-speaking institution must demonstrate that they have knowledge of German at level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), for example by proving that they have passed the TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache) with an average score of ‘4’, or must furnish equivalent proof.

If, at the time of application, German language skills at B2 level of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)" are proven, proof of C1 level can be provided in exceptional cases by the end of the first semester. The examination board will make the necessary determinations.

Detailed description of the degree programme

Long-term business success requires integrated management. This is especially true for technically oriented companies, where executives should not only think and act economically, but also have an understanding of their company’s core business. Our Bachelor programme in Business Management in Technology focusing on Industrial Chemistry will equip you with the necessary cross-divisional knowledge, making you the ideal candidate for management positions in this sector.

Objectives

Our degree programme combines business thinking with technical expertise. You will acquire a basic knowledge of economics and engineering sciences, gaining the combined qualification that industries and businesses are looking for. After completing your degree, you will be able to analyse processes and problems from the occupational field of industrial chemistry and to develop practice-oriented solutions while taking account of contexts in other fields. You will consider technical and business processes holistically and support your company competently in coping with increasingly demanding quality requirements and growing cost pressures.

With your integrative actions, you will build bridges between the disciplines and establish valuable connections – not only in terms of content, but also between the different teams in the company.

Occupational fields

Our degree programme will qualify you for professions related to the chemicals industry involving business responsibility. Your degree will make you a sought-after expert in management or sales, as well as in finance and accounting. You may work, for example, as an engineer in public and private sector inspection bodies, as a manager in a purchasing or planning department, or in employment specialised in production optimisation.

Alternatively, you may continue with a Master’s programme as a follow-up to your Bachelor’s degree, paving the way towards research or management levels in the sector.

Content and course sequence

Our Bachelor programme is divided into different modules, enabling you to plan your academic career individually. The degree programme consists of two different lines with regard to content: the business elements are provided by the Institute of Business Administration and Engineering (ITB), while the Department of Chemical Engineering is responsible for the engineering elements. Both lines are closely linked from the beginning. In the first few semesters, you will acquire a basic knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering, well as fundamental knowledge of business administration and controlling.

In the fourth and fifth semesters, you will begin to tailor your profile individually and specifically, by choosing modules from a catalogue of compulsory electives at the Department of Chemical Engineering and ITB. In business simulations, communication training and project management exercises, you will learn how to apply your know-how more specifically, already developing key transferable skills for your future career while studying.

In the final semester, you will apply your knowledge during a work placement. Our good contacts with the business world and industry will make sure that you will find an attractive partner for your practical experience. You will also write your Bachelor thesis at this time. By attending colloquia, you will be involved in networking events, enabling you to discuss your hypotheses and ideas with other students and lecturers.
