Detailed description of the degree programme

As an architect, you will have a wide range of specialist knowledge: in addition to technical/construction requirements, project planning must also take into account economic, social and cultural demands. At the same time, it is important to stand out from the crowd to hold your own in the market. Our Master’s programme in Architecture unites these two requirements in a carefully designed programme, offering creative freedom and hands-on work. In this way, you can develop your own style, while creating the basis for professional success thanks to your comprehensive qualification.

Objectives

In the Master’s programme, you will practise the complex process of architecture – from design to construction. In addition to developing the technical/construction skills needed to achieve this, you will also learn how to plan construction projects within their social and cultural boundary conditions, to create them cost-efficiently, and to manage their life cycle.

Occupational fields

As a graduate of our Master’s programme, you will officially be permitted to use the title of ‘Architect’ – according to the UNESCO/UIA standards for this licensed profession. This internationally recognised qualification will enable you to become a self-employed architect. It will also qualify you to enter the senior civil service and to pursue doctoral studies.

Content and course sequence

The Master’s programme will prepare you optimally for work as an architect. Over four semesters, you will practise using all of the necessary tools and instruments. You will have the opportunity to choose specialisations from our wide range of courses – at outstanding universities across Europe, such as in Barcelona, Delft, Cracow, Prague and Venice.

In the Master’s programme, your point of reference will always be the draft. As early as in the first academic year, you will practise different methods. In the Short Draft module, for example, you will try out the rapid method: this involves devising a concept within a short space of time, clarifying your ideas. At the same time, you will build the foundation for your creative design work in specialist modules such as Urban Design, Management, Theory and History, or Structural Design. Our wide range of optional modules, such as CAD, Interior Design, and Historic Preservation, will provide scope for individual specialisation.

You will apply your expertise in the fourth semester, concluding your programme with a Master’s thesis.
