Detailed description of the degree programme

Nursing care is undergoing change. There are many reasons for this change: new and different diseases have emerged, demographic structures are changing, and resources are becoming increasingly scarce. The health care profession is becoming increasingly challenging and there is a growing need for academically trained specialists. Our Master’s programme in Management in Care and Health Care Facilities will prepare you for the new challenges that managers must meet in the course of these processes. It is especially directed towards graduates from the areas of nursing and therapy focusing on management.

Objectives

By taking our degree programme in Management in Care and Health Care Facilities, you will obtain scientifically based management training that will optimally prepare you for managerial roles in health care facilities. After completing the degree programme, you will have extensive knowledge of human resources management and business management. You will also be aware of the foundations of ethics, which you will consciously address in decision-making processes. You will acquire a comprehensive knowledge of methods, enabling you to manage business-related and research projects and to bring about innovations in care and health care facilities. In cooperation with various healthcare institutions, you will also enhance your expertise in a real-world setting.

Occupational fields

The Master’s programme will qualify you to take on managerial responsibilities and management functions in outpatient and inpatient nursing facilities, as well as in institutions for the disabled and rehabilitation facilities. You can also become involved in developing model projects that create innovative solutions for problems in the healthcare sector.

Content and course sequence

Our application-oriented Master’s programme is designed for full-time study over the course of four semesters. In the first three semesters, you will take nine modules – three each semester. The course content ranges from management topics and knowledge of marketing to legal issues and research methods. You will develop and write your Master’s thesis in the fourth semester on the basis of a project description, concluding your degree programme with a Master of Arts title.

The degree programme bases its concept on the principle of blended learning: we specifically combine face-to-face classes with e-learning elements. For you, this means that you study at Münster University of Applied Sciences for four days per semester for each module, which adds up to a total of 12 days of face-to-face classes every semester in the case of three modules. There are also mandatory attendance periods during which you will take exams. For the rest of the time, you will study using our e-learning resources, comprising study materials for 270 hours per module.

Why choose us

The distinguishing feature of our Master’s programme is that theory and practice are consistently closely interlinked. We often develop the learning content based on typical situations of the everyday working environment. In the process, we take an interdisciplinary approach. In other words, we analyse and assess real-life case studies from different academic perspectives, such as from legal, business or HR perspectives.
