Detailed description of the degree programme

Engineers are in demand - and for good reason. All areas of our daily lives are permeated by increasingly complex technical systems. As an engineer in building technology, you will plan and design efficient building technologies that make life at home, at work and on the road pleasant and safe.

As a building services engineer, you don’t tinker with individual products, but develop and optimize the systems in which technology interacts. You plan, develop, organize, monitor, you support customers and prepare offers. In this way, you change the big picture and pave the way for a more sustainable future.

Career fields

The demand for engineers in building services engineering is constantly growing. The employers are as diverse as the tasks in building technology. These include engineering and planning offices for technical building equipment, manufacturers of building technology systems and components, operators of large properties such as airports, hospitals or hotels, but also the public sector. They are all looking for engineers who are technically versed and can also assess issues in larger contexts. With your bachelor’s degree, you will fit this profile perfectly.

Contents and course of study

The course of study is divided into three sections.

Basic studies:

First, you will learn the necessary basics of natural sciences and engineering together with students in the Energy Technology and Environmental Technology programs.

Advanced studies:

Starting in the third semester, you will deepen your knowledge in the field of building services engineering. You will learn about the individual technical trades, how to analyze, calculate and evaluate them. In doing so, you will follow the approach of a comprehensive, integral planning methodology.
This includes technical modules such as heating, indoor air, refrigeration and plumbing technology, building automation, control and regulation technology, gas technology, or smart building engineering.
You will learn how to plan and design building technology systems in the modules integrated planning, building-automation planning, building energy technology, or energetic building assessment.

Practical phase and graduation:

In the seventh semester, you will gain practical experience in a 12-week practical phase in a company. Afterwards, you will write your Bachelor’s thesis. And after successful completion, you will be awarded the academic degree of Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) as an engineer in building services.
