Detailed description of the degree programme

Professional pre-clinic emergency care is a central and increasingly more sophisticated task of the healthcare system. The significance of the training, further and advanced education of rescue personnel and emergency paramedics together with the need for respectively trained professional vocational pedagogues is rising accordingly. Our study programme offers you ideal access to diverse pedagogic professions in various areas in the rescue system such as instructing, informing, training and counselling.

Objectives

In our study programme, you learn how instruction, information, training and counselling can be designed according to target groups and concepts. This means: You acquire the necessary pedagogic skills to teach emergency paramedics in accordance with the German Emergency Paramedic Act and to promote the professional competence of learners for professional preclinical care in training, further and advanced education. You know about the pivotal pedagogic areas of activity and tasks of the teaching profession and illuminate them from an inter-professional aspect. You posses a basic understanding of (simulation-based) teaching and learning processes in the operational education, of counselling processes for the occupational and social practice of the emergency and rescue services and are able to apply various teaching and work strategies hands-on. You are capable of execute and assess projects independently.

Occaptional fields

Our Bachelor course qualifies you for pedagogic work in the training, further and advanced education as well as for the counselling and instruction of rescue service personnel. Employers are mainly adult education institutions as well as schools for healthcare professions and rescue services. If you wish to teach at schools for healthcare service professions, you require an advanced Masterˈs degree eventually. For this purpose, FH Münster offers the Master`s programme "Education in Health Care", which is expected to be offered from the winter semester 2023/24 for the specialisation of emergency medical services.

Content and course progress

The first four semester of your studies are structured in three conceptual fields. In the field "Specialisation rescue services", we teach you the basics of emergency medicine and rescue science. Close to professional practice, you will learn, for example, how optimal evidence-based patient care is structured or how you design and evaluate the care of different target groups inter-professionally. In order to offer the greatest possible practical orientation, individual selected block courses and/or excursions take place at external learning locations in the region, including the learning location Bocholt in cooperation with the Fire and Rescue Academy there.

In the field of selected reference disciplines, you will acquire a basic knowledge for the scientific examination of practical professional issues. Among other, these include fundamentals of scientific works, quality management or the sociology of health and psychology. However, important aspects of health and education law are also addressed and specific features of inter-professional cooperation are critically examined.

For your employment in the teaching and counselling practice, you furthermore require pedagogic and didactic skills. To this end, you will acquire appropriate methods, concepts and theoretical models.

During the progress of the course, you can acquire own experiences in the pedagogic context by way of two practice phases. Both are accompanied by courses at the FH Münster. The fifth semester begins with a 12-week practice phase. Here, you obtain an in-depth view into the pedagogic work in the healthcare system. The study program furthermore contains the planning, implementation and evaluation of a self-selected project. Here, you will also obtain in-sight into your subsequent professional practice if the project is carried out in cooperation with an institution from the health sector.

In the sixth semester, you will write your bachelor thesis and thus conclude your studies with the title "Bachelor of Arts".

This speaks in our favour

Our study programme is particularly characterised by the close link between theory and practice. The focus of our teaching is always on the concrete practical situation to which we relate the findings of various scientific disciplines. In addition, we value the consistent exchange with various educational institutes in the healthcare system. You will be able to make valuable contacts with subsequent employers even during your study programme.
