Detailed description of the degree programme

Are you currently working as an industrial engineer and would like to enhance your management skills and expand your technical knowledge? Do you seek to take on managerial responsibilities in the future involving project and personnel responsibility? Would you ideally like to combine studying and working with family life?

Then our postgraduate Master’s programme in Business Management in Technology is the right choice for you. We offer you continuing education that will boost your career, while at the same time offering a great deal of flexibility.

Objectives

In the degree programme, you will develop and hone your skills at the intersection of business and engineering. You will take business requirements into account, but will also be aware of technical production processes and their background. You will be able to solve practical problems using academic methods and will have the necessary power of abstraction to do so.

In subjects such as negotiating skills and behavioural management, you will develop your soft skills, e.g. your capacity for teamwork or your negotiating skills. We will also sharpen your intercultural communication skills and your interdisciplinary mindset.

This extensive knowledge will enable you to solve technical and business issues and to take on specialist and managerial responsibilities in an international context.

Occupational fields

As an industrial engineer, you will operate at the intersection of engineering and business processes. With a Master’s degree in Business Management in Technology, your versatility will make you a prime asset for the job market. Our graduates are employed in all kinds of company departments, often at management level. In addition, the degree will qualify you to take on application-related research or to pursue a doctorate.

Occupational fields

Our degree programme is divided into three subject areas:

  • Business Administration: You will enhance your business knowledge in subjects such as Technology and Innovation Management or Intercultural Communication and Competence.
  • Engineering: In this area, you will develop your technical knowledge, e.g. in Integrated Product Development, which involves dealing with patent law issues, among other things. You will practise working in a solution-oriented and interdisciplinary manner within a research project.
  • Core electives: Thanks to a carefully selected range of optional modules, you will be able to develop your skill set in areas such as Leadership Development, Innovative Energy Technologies or Business Intelligence.

Most of the course content is learned during independent study, supported by didactically prepared learning material. This means that you can schedule your learning periods flexibly.

In addition, face-to-face classes take place during the semester on Saturdays and occasionally on Friday afternoons. Specific assignments and case studies are then dealt with in a practice-oriented manner. All dates are published well in advance. We will support you by providing individual supervision and other options that run concurrently with the programme, such as a time management workshop.

You will write your Master’s thesis in the fifth semester.
