Detailed description of the degree programme

In our Master’s programme in Mechanical Engineering, with a specialisation in Product Development, Computational Engineering or Agricultural Engineering, you will become a versatile expert who will play a key role in development and production processes.

Objectives

You will acquire profound technical and broad-based expertise in the field of mechanical engineering. The focus is on specialising in product development, computational engineering and agricultural engineering.

After graduating, you will be able to take on particularly demanding tasks in the above-mentioned fields. In particular, you will acquire in-depth knowledge and skills for scientific work, which will specifically prepare you for a possible scientific career after graduation, for example in the form of a doctorate.

In addition, your communication and teamwork skills as well as your decision-making competence will be strengthened after completing the programme, so that you will have a greater sense of responsibility in the context of product development processes in companies thanks to an enhanced professional self-image.

Occupational fields

After obtaining your degree, you will be able to work in the following fields:

  • Construction design
  • Research and development
  • Project management
  • Production planning and control
  • Production, manufacturing
  • Management, business administration
  • Logistics
  • Quality management, quality assurance
  • Service and maintenance
  • Distribution, sales
  • Work scheduling
  • Training and continuing education

Content and course sequence

Our part-time Master’s programme in Mechanical Engineering takes six semesters. During the semester, you will attend courses at our department for two full working days each week. This will enable you to combine your studies and career with family life.
You will select your specialisation to match your personal interests:

  • Product Development

In this specialisation, you will address the design of machinery and equipment involving modules such as Integrated Product Development or Machine Dynamics.

  • Computational Engineering

In this specialisation, you will explore the interplay between traditional mechanical engineering and modern information processing in modules such as Robotics or Multibody Simulation.

  • Agricultural Engineering

This specialisation focuses on agricultural machinery, process engineering issues and renewable raw materials.

From the third semester on, you will learn valuable interdisciplinary content in ‘integration modules’ such as Management Skills, Law, and Product Liability.
