For more detailed information, please consult our departmental website.

Online registration for the selection procedure is possible from 1 April - 15 June for the winter semester and from 15 September - 15 November for the summer semester.

Term of application terminates 15.06.2024.
ApplicationOnly after the selection procedure has been completed or after you have registered for the selection procedure you can apply for the local NC procedure of the degree programme by 15 July (winter semester) and by 15 January (summer semester).

Detailed description of the degree programme

Software systems improve business processes, enabling companies to create new business models. As a business IT specialist, you will design and develop such software on the basis of modern (web) technologies. At the same time, you will understand the business logic behind its everyday use.

Upon completion of the Master´s Degree in Business Information Systems, you will have the following knowledge and skills:

  • Develop operational and inter-operational information systems for business and the Internet.
  • Create specialist concepts in the context of system analysis, specify the architecture in system design and develop individual software systems and/or adapt standard software systems in system implementation.
  • Develop and deploy web-based application systems with attention to security, reliability, and usability.
  • Master current programming, markup, and database languages.
  • Design complex and distributed - also artificially intelligent and Big Data - systems.
  • Configure and deploy the necessary infrastructure.
  • Consider business concepts and apply IT-related management methods in the process.
  • Plan and manage projects.

In addition, you will be able to communicate your information technology knowledge in a way that is understandable to laypersons. You have the necessary skills to contribute to teams in a goal-oriented manner and to work on challenging issues in a solution-oriented manner.

Occupational fields

For companies, the qualifications you have acquired are valuable. As a master´s graduate, you bring sought-after knowledge for the complex tasks of the modern IT job market. Your interdisciplinary education and skills profile will enable you to take on a diverse range of tasks in the following areas of work:

  • Software/Web architecture,
  • IT consulting,
  • IT project management,
  • IT management.

Of course, there are other - also industry-specific - fields of activity in which you can successfully pursue a career as a business IT specialist with a master´s degree.

Content and course sequence

The study programme is divided into two consecutive stages: the specialisation stage (in the first, second, third and fourth semesters) and the research and development stage (in the fifth and sixth semesters).

During the specialisation stage, you will gain a detailed knowledge of IT (e.g. mobile engineering, big data, and IT management) as well as business (e.g. controlling, accounting, and organisational psychology). During the second stage, you will work on complex, innovative tasks from the realm of applied research. In this way, you will enhance your skills and prepare to use them in the business world and academia.

In the fifth semester, you will be able to choose from several practical and research projects from various subject areas and sectors in the core elective module Research and Development Projects. Working in a small team, you will deal with challenging assignments, such as those in the context of a funded research project.
