How can you find an internship position abroad?

The job search is your responsibility. It is helpful to be clear about why you want to tackle the project internship abroad. This involves asking yourself a few questions: what areas of work do I want to learn about? Which specific employers are I interested in? Which skills do I want to acquire? How much time will I need to reach these goals?
Personal contacts can be helpful, but it is also advisable to research about professional associations, employment agencies and practices in the respective host country.

Our offers for advice and workshops on internships and foreign work culture

If you have general questions about career orientation, job search and application, the Career Service of the FH Münster is a good contact. In addition to personal counseling, you can also participate in Career Service events.

You can get a good start on the topic of internships abroad at the information events on internships abroad, which are usually offered twice a semester by the International Office. You can register via PLUSPUNKT.

Get inspired!

General information on internships abroad

You already know, where you want to spend your internship abroad? Excellent! Additionally, it is advisable to inform yourself on these topics as well:

Funding and scholarships (e.g. ERASMUS+, PROMOS)

An internship abroad is not necessarily expensive. Travel, accommodation, food, insurance, possibly costs for a visa and vaccinations - these are costs that should not be forgotten.

The good news: Depending on the host country and the duration of the internship, scholarship providers offer different funding opportunities. Please inform yourself early and thoroughly:

For example on ERASMUS+ as a possibility to fund internships in Europe and on PROMOS, a scholarship program specifically for countries outside of Europe.

We regularly offer events to inform about the topic - and we advise you gladly during the office hours in a personal meeting. Please read through the basic information on the topic first:

Language proficiency and (intercultural) preparation for an internship abroad

Inform yourself at an early stage which language skills are necessary for your planned stay. If necessary, you can use the time to improve your language proficiency before your stay abroad.
For example, take a language course!
You can also join our language tandem "Meet2Speak".
Additionally, we offer intercultural training workshops and the informational event 'Basics for studying abroad' via PLUSPUNKT.

Visa, insurance, vaccination and security

Don't forget: Take care of your visa and the necessary insurances in time! Find out whether you need certain vaccinations and what the security situation in the destination country looks like.

If you are staying in Germany with a residence permit, please inform yourself before your semester abroad at the Foreigners' Registration Office about legal regulations for long-term stays abroad.

Recognition of the internship

Before the start of your internship abroad, contact the examination board of your department at Münster UAS to clarify if your internship can be recognized at FH Münster towards your degree.

Finalize the details in a Learning Agreement. If the details of your internship change during your stay abroad, consult with your examination board. After your return, take care of the recognition of your courses.
