The iSuN may now call itself "Place of Progress" (f.l.t.r. board member Prof. Dr. Guido Ritter, Vice President for Transfer and Partnership Carsten Schröder, North Rhine-Westphalian Science Minister Svenja Schulze and iSuN board members Prof. Dr. Cristof Wetter, Prof. Dr. Petra Teitscheid and Prof. Dr. ursel Wahrburg.

The focus of the Institute of Sustainable Nutrition (iSuN) at the FH Münster lies on research on the appreciation of food. Since 2008, researchers develop concepts, products and services for a sustainable nutrition. In September 2014, North Rhine-Westphalian Science Minister Svenja Schulze has awarded the iSuN with the title "Place of Progress".

"We need practice-oriented projects and people who inspire others," Schulze said while handing over the certificate to Prof. Dr. Petra Teitscheid of the iSuN.

"It is a great honour for us to be a 'Place of Progress'," said Teitscheid. The award clearly shows that the importance of sustainable nutrition is further increasing. "People want to trust the producers and the trade and simply enjoy their food," said the university teacher at the Department of Food · Nutrition · Facilities. Nobody would want to complicate their shopping or have to think about ingredients and restrictions. According to Prof. Dr. Teitscheid, this makes it a great challenge to win people over to a sustainable nutrition.

By way of example, Prof. Dr. Ritter then demonstrated the iSuN's practical work in the sensory lab. Here, he carries out sensory tests and analyses food products. He presents the project SenseBase: "We have developed tests that analyse optical and tactile skills as well as sensations of smell and taste," he explains. The guests could see for themselves how it works. At the end, the ecotrophologist invited to a sensory tasting.

Place of Progress

The Ministry of Science and the Ministry of Economy awards those institutions with the title "Place of Progress" which accomplish the integration of economic, ecological and social aspects into their projects in an outstanding way and which contribute to the resolution of societal challenges. 121 places had applied for the title "Place of Progress 2013/2014", 19 were selected. The award is part of the statewide research strategy "Fortschritt NRW" ("Progress North Rhine-Westphalia").
