There are no special requirements for registering for the assessment procedure. The requirements for admission to the Master’s programme are outlined below.

RegistrationThe registration deadline is 15 March 2024. Since the assessment procedure takes place in the summer semester, the application portal states that the registration is for the summer semester. After passing the assessment procedure, you must use the application portal to enrol for the degree programme for the winter semester.

Detailed description of the aptitude test

The aim of the assessment procedure is to determine applicants’ special conceptual and creative aptitude. After all, only candidates with an aptitude for the programme in question have the basis for successfully completing the degree.

How and when can I register for the assessment procedure?

Registration for the assessment procedure takes place online. For this purpose, our Applicant Portal (myFH) will be accessible from 20 January to 15 March.

Any time during the registration period, you can activate the “Direkt anmelden” (Register directly) button at the top of the page, which will direct you to the process for registering for the Applicant Portal, and then to the application.

Once the closing date for applications has passed, you will receive an email from us inviting you to upload your portfolio and the other necessary application documents in PDF format.

When and where should I submit my portfolio?

You will be able to upload your portfolio and other application documents in an unlocked upload area in the myFH portal around mid/end of March 2024. The exact period will be announced.

What should my portfolio contain?

Your portfolio should contain compelling samples of your work; if possible, your work should be presented in landscape format as a PDF file (16:9), which you should name as follows:
“Surname_FirstName_Portfolio.pdf”.

Please save cinematic resources in a video format such as mpg, m4v or mov, and check to make sure that they work. These file names should also include your first name and surname.

The data volume limit is 500 MB per file.

What other documents are required?

  • A covering letter explaining your reasons for wanting to pursue the Master’s programme in Design at MSD (no longer than one A4 page)
  • A letter of recommendation (no longer than half an A4 page) from a professor explaining why you are suitable for a Master’s programme at MSD
  • Your university certificate or a current transcript of grades, including all (preliminary) Bachelor grades, enabling an average grade to be calculated, and, where applicable, proof of having registered for the final thesis.
  • A curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • Proof of employment, where applicable
  • To document the 30 CP that you must complete to bridge the gap in the transition from a 6-semester Bachelor’s degree to a 3-semester Master’s degree, please add a proposal for the bridging scenario you have chosen (see link below).

Please merge your files into PDF format and name each file using your surname, first name and the relevant description.

When will I get the result of the assessment procedure?

At the beginning of May, you will be notified of whether you have passed the assessment procedure; you can then apply for enrolment in accordance with the requirements using the notification of conceptual and creative aptitude.

How long is the result of the assessment procedure valid for?

Evidence of your conceptual and creative aptitude is valid for the following application period.
